she made him a dad

I know I'm late on this, but for Father's Day I put together a little photo collage for all the men in Blythe's life. Daddy and her Papa and Pop Pop also got a little poem she wrote. I had to dictate them for her of course.

A month or so ago Brent's wonderful sister, Beth, was visiting and she said, "That outfit is cute. We need to take some pics of Blythe!" And I said, "Oh I hate having my daughter's picture taken all the time…" Just kidding. I said, "DUDE! Let's DO THIS THING!" And then I saw the dandelions. You see, Blythe has a thing for being outside and dandelions kind of became her thing with Papa. Then I had an idea: Let's just snap a few pics of her in the dandelions and I'll frame one for my dad for his Father's Day gift. Perfect.

But then that little photo turned into some pretty wonderful moments we captured of my sweet daughter.

So that is the story behind the pictures.

And then there is the story of this girl's daddy. You see, I love Brent. Deeply. In my bones. I thought I couldn't love him more, actually. And then all of a sudden I saw him become a father and my love grew even greater.

He is one of those guys who was just made to love his children. When I see him look at Blythe, it's like I suddenly know how my heavenly Father must look at all of us, His children. It is that kind of beautiful.

Before Blythe was born, Brent and I heard the song "The One You Need" by Shane and Shane, and we knew right away that that was one of our prayers for Blythe. So on this belated Father's Day post I wanted to share these pictures and post the lyrics to the song that we pray resonates in our daughter's soul.

And I wanted to say: Happy Father's Day, Brent. This was what you were made for.

Hey Hey, sweet daughter
I am so proud to be your father
Each day is like a gift from God

Hey Hey, sweet daughter
There's no music like your laughter
and your smile's like the rising sun

You know I loved you from the start
so come in close, hold my hand,
while Daddy shares his heart

I wish that I could be your everything
Be the one to give you all the things you need
Sometimes I'm gonna let you down

But there's Someone if you just believe
To be your hero like He's always been to me
Darling, Jesus is the one you need

No matter what you walk through,
He will always love you
Just the way you are

For there's nothing in this world
that I want for my baby girl
Than to be happy ever after

The story of your life is still untold
and I pray the King of all the universe
would make your heart His home

Darling, Jesus is the One who will never leave you
He's been there all along
Oh when you're ready, you can find true love

I wish that I could be your everything
Be the one to give you all the things you need
Sometimes I'm gonna let you down

But there's Someone if you just believe
To be your hero like He's always been to me
Darling, Jesus is the one you need

Oh, this is SO BEAUTIFUL! I just happened to get a minute to catch up. I am on vacation and without any service, which has turned out to be.......like going 25 years into the past. Mostly a good thing. This is just gorgeous in every single way. AS USUAL! :)

I just showed these pictures to Caroline, and she informed me that Blythe is probably trying to say "Hey Mommy, I really miss my cousin Caroline!" (according to her, this is taking place in the 3rd picture from the bottom). Just thought you should know.
