If you missed my last blog post, I talked about pushing past my writer's block and challenging myself to write stories like I used to. So I went to the "prompt generator" again and came up with this: "Where does that fear come from? Write about something that frightens you that other people might find ridiculous. Write about it in a poem, a story, or whatever." Here is my response:
nervous sweating
trembling hands.
sighting one such monster
increases my heart
to an unhealthy and unsteady rate
to hear the roar,
the cry for desperate children at play,
to become lunch
later,
turns my knees to jello
as i peddle
peddle
peddle away.
my bike will not go fast enough
as slow as
[something more creative than molasses]
my feet dangling
dangerously close
to the monster's vicious teeth.
made to kill
hunt
devour;
it is only
a matter of time
i can't play in the neighborhood
like most little kids
my childhood stolen from me,
ripped from my fingers
by the brute that chases my bike.
if only i had the power of
a tiger trainer
super man
God
i could stop him in his tracks
unfortunately i am just a little
tiny
helpless
innocent
care-free
powerless
girl.
nothing compared to this giant
massive
controlling
guilty
raging
powerful
BEAST.
i lose him on the horizon
in the blinding sun
and i know
i KNOW
this will be my last moment
on earth.
i love you mom
dad
sister
friend
Jesus
i am yours now
but then
glorious THEN
i hear shouting in the distance
my rescuers
my heroes
my saviors
"SQUIRT!
SQUIRT!!
SQQQQUUUIIRRRT!!!
Get back here!!"
And then my
nemesis,
that horrid beastly creature,
turns on his heels,
forgets he is about to devour me,
bones and all,
barks at my fading shadow
and returns to his dog house.
*Dog lovers: please note the satirical nature of this piece [however, this note does not mean I would like your dog any better].

So you don't want to hang out with Reggie next time you're in town?! =)
Oh Kelsey! You and your dog phobia. Obviously you've never come in contact with a monsterous, flesh-devouring, quick-as-lightening, HUGE spider that you have to kill yourself because no one else who loves you or even cares about you is around.
I knew what this was going to be about by simply reading the prompt :) Very nice. And I loved the last one, too by the way. Although I did have to stop and think about how old we were when we could actually spell out words and guess them??? We were just really smart.
I'm like Kali - I knew it was about dogs right away. And in your defense, not everybody had an Ananda that prowled through their neighborhood! He really could have devoured a small child if he had wanted to. Maybe some day we can afford counseling.
