Going to church weekly with the same people and having that proximity makes it a lot easier to connect with people. It's like when you're in school and you see your friends every day---it's a lot easier to feel like you belong, you know?

When we first moved to the place we're at now, it took a little while to build that community, but that's to be expected--it also took quite a bit of effort on our part (still does). We regularly have people over for games and treats, and we've taken advantage of other church- and community-sponsored activities in order to connect with people further.

Loved your thoughts on this! Lots to think about.

http://autodidacticambitions.blogspot.comTorriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00914130332528653162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8433724144623540258.post-7039640168440116122015-07-26T16:15:00.048-04:002015-07-26T16:15:00.048-04:00Community is sooo important! To leave that and go to a new place where you know no one can leave you feeling extremely isolated. I think that's a really big part of why it's so hard to go back to Louisville: because I know we had a great group of people and I know that we don't really have that here. While we have made some friends and know people now and have a sense of community here, it's still not like the friendships we had built in Louisville.

I have experienced real community a few times in my life and the factors that made it such a solid community were time and autheticity. I guess. You really have to invest time and be real with people in order to create a true community. Though, the hard part about that is that it takes time to do that ... You really have to make an effort and invest in the people around you/that you are trying to create a community/do life with. You will get out of it what you put in it. Though, there are times that you just click with a person and that's all it takes. Those are the special relationships and ones you can go back to in an instant - like your friends that you saw at the wedding.

And there are my rambling thoughts on that. :) Hannahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03386777270936742232noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8433724144623540258.post-87459636567588531422015-07-23T20:00:49.957-04:002015-07-23T20:00:49.957-04:00Great thoughts, Kelsey, and how fun that you had a...Great thoughts, Kelsey, and how fun that you had a mini-reunion recently!

We have definitely experienced community at NWC, but it's ebbed and flowed, as so much of life does. I was well-connected as a student, but the other time that stands out was during a certain period of the RD staff when we felt like family.

By the way, that is a BEAUTIFUL house that appears in the background of your snowed-in pic! =)*carrie*https://www.blogger.com/profile/10545859613596796648noreply@blogger.com
